their talk partner is, move on to the next step.

Get your Story Plan worksheet. Read through all of the parts of your
story. When you're done, give a silent thumbs up.

Get your Story Beginning worksheet. Close your eyes and IMAGINE
what your forest looks like.

Draw the forest that you imagined for your story. Your teacher will
tell you how long you have to draw.

Write in some words to show what sounds are happening at the
beginning of your story.

Imagine what your character is DOING at the beginning of your
story. When you have YOUR idea, draw it in the character circle.

story. Start your story by describing what you see and hear in
the forest.

Use your drawing of your character to introduce them to your
readers. Give details about what your character looks like and

Read over the beginning of your story to yourself. Make sure you
described the sights, the sounds, the character, and what your
