The book Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall was the inspiration for Eli’s story. Notice when the author shows how the character is feeling using action and sound.
Go on a scavenger hunt of books in your classroom or library. Read just the first few sentences or paragraphs. See if you can figure out the character and setting from just the first part of the story. Notice what the author did to bring you into the world of the story. Action? Sound? Description? Mystery?
