DISCUSS:
Which changes do you think could be clues about where my friend’s mom went?
DISCUSS:
Work together with your class to retell what has happened so far in The Case
of the Missing Grandpa.
Step
01/21
Get your supplies.
Step
02/21
In today’s lesson, you’ll need someone to share ideas with. This could
be a partner or someone you sit near. When everyone knows who
their talk partner is, move on to the next step.
Step
03/21
If you’d like to read the story on your own, you can pause the video
now. Or you can keep watching to hear me read the story aloud.
Step
04/21
Get the class letter. Have one person in your class read the class
letter out loud. When you’re done reading, move on to the next step.
Step
05/21
Get your Chapter Four Continued worksheet. Unclip your case file
and get out Chapter One of the story. Then put your paperclip back
on your case file.
Step
06/21
Read the first page of Chapter One quietly to yourself. When you’re
done, give a silent thumbs up.
Step
07/21
Think about what Rohan is thinking and feeling at the beginning
of the story. Write your ideas in the empty space on your Chapter
One worksheet.
Step
08/21
Get your Chapter 4 worksheet. Reread the last three paragraphs
of the story. As you read, think about what Rohan is thinking and
feeling at the end. Write your ideas in the empty space.
Step
09/21
Discuss with your partner: How did Rohan change from the
beginning to the end of the story?
Step
10/21
Take a look at the chart on your Chapter Four Continued
worksheet. Write your one sentence answer using as many
words from the question as you can.
Step
11/21
Find one or two sentences from Chapter One that show how
Rohan felt at the beginning of the story. Underline the evidence
you want to use.
Step
12/21
Use one of the sentence frames on your worksheet.
Then, add your evidence.
Step
13/21
Look at the last page of Chapter Four. Reread that page to find a
sentence or two that shows how Rohan felt at the end of the story.
Underline the evidence you want to use.
Step
14/21
Add your second evidence to your response. You can use the
sentence starters on your worksheet if you want.
Step
15/21
Write at least one sentence to explain how you know that Rohan
changed. If you want, you can write more than one.
Step
16/21
Take a few minutes to edit your writing.
Step
17/21
Take turns reading your writing out loud to your partner. If you want,
you can make changes.
Step
18/21
Trace the dotted lines on your worksheet to show how all the parts
of your writing are connected.
Step
19/21
Fold your Chapter Four worksheet and Chapter Four Continued
worksheets in half.
Step
20/21
Take the paper clip off your case file. Place both of your chapter
4 worksheets behind all of your other worksheets INSIDE of your
case file. Use your paper clip to hold your case file together.
Step
21/21
Now you have solved the Case of the Missing Grandpa… and you’ve
answered all the questions that the author sent! You can now write
"Mystery Solved" anywhere you want on your case file.
