DISCUSS:
What do you think happens when the baby sea turtles get to the ocean?
DISCUSS:
Can you think of some ways that we could share this information with others?
Step
01/13
Get your supplies.
Step
02/13
In today’s lesson, you’ll need someone to share ideas with. This could
be a partner, or someone you sit near. When everyone knows who
their talk partner is, move on to the next step.
Step
03/13
To get some ideas, let’s listen to Oscar, a scientist who studies the
ocean—and everything in it. Listen to what he told me.
Step
04/13
After hearing what Oscar said, I looked at my picture of the beach to
see if there was anything not safe for sea turtles. Look at your
picture of the beach. Find the plastic bag and circle it.
Step
05/13
Discuss with your talk partner: What is something that people can do
to help keep sea turtles safe from plastic bags that look like jellyfish?
Step
06/13
Under your beach picture, write down some ways people can help.
You can use my ideas if you want, or write your own.
Step
07/13
Here’s our second expert, Lucy the Lifeguard. Listen to Lucy.
Then circle any new problems you see.
Step
08/13
Think about how someone could help fix this problem. Discuss with
your partner, then write down your ideas.
Step
09/13
Here’s our last expert, Vicki the Volunteer. Listen to Vicki. Then circle
any new problems you see and write ways people can help.
Step
10/13
Think about how someone could help fix this problem. Discuss with
your partner, then write down your ideas.
Step
11/13
Choose two ideas you would like to write about in your guidebook.
Draw a smiley face next to the ideas you chose.
Step
12/13
The papers shown on the screen are VIPs: Very Important Papers!
Your teacher will tell you where to put them so you will have them
for the next lesson.
Step
13/13
Shelly is thrilled that you are going to help make her beach safe for
her and her babies. We’ll check in with her in the next lesson, as we
begin our first draft of our guidebooks!
