Step
01/21
Before we begin, you’ll need a piece of writing that you’re going to
edit and get ready to publish. For Earth Explorers: Get your
Introduction and Conclusion, Paragraph 1, and Paragraph 2.
Step
02/21
Discuss: This sentence is actually two sentences. Can you find
where the missing period should go?
Step
03/21
Now, look through your writing. Check the end of every sentence
to make sure it ends with a period, question mark, or exclamation
mark. If it doesn’t, you can add one.
Step
04/21
Discuss: Where is the missing capital letter?
Step
05/21
Check the start of every sentence to make sure it begins with a
capital letter. If it doesn’t, you can change the letter.
Step
06/21
Discuss: Where is the spelling mistake in this sentence?
Step
07/21
Now, get your writing. Use all the spelling strategies you know
to help you spell your words. You can also use resources in your
classroom to help you if you’re not sure how to spell a word.
Step
08/21
Discuss: What part of this sentence doesn’t sound right?
Step
09/21
Now read your writing to check to make sure it sounds right.
You can read in your head, or whisper read to yourself. If you
find a part that doesn’t sound right, you can fix your sentence.
Step
10/21
Recopy your work in your best handwriting.
For Earth Explorers: Get your final draft worksheets.

Congratulations! Your writing has leveled up!

If you need a natural stopping point:

Teachers: This is a natural stopping point. The next steps will guide students through coloring and assembling their final posters. Students should be finished writing their final drafts before moving on. If students wrote digitally, print their writing before moving on.

If you’re continuing right now, go to the next slide.

Step
11/21
Get your supplies.
Step
12/21
Get your conclusion worksheet. Cut on the dotted line, like this.
Step
13/21
Cut out your Earth Explorer badge by cutting on the dotted lines.
You can put your badge to the side for now.
Step
14/21
Get your Body Paragraph 2 worksheet. Cut on the dotted line
like this.
Step
15/21
Place your Body Paragraph 2 on top of your conclusion paragraph
like this. Line the pages up at the top.
Step
16/21
Get your Introduction and Body Paragraph 1 worksheet. Cut on
the dotted line, like this.
Step
17/21
Place your Paragraph 1 worksheet on top of the pile. Then put your
Introduction on the very top. All four of your pages should line up at
the top and will look like this on the bottom.
Step
18/21
When your pages are all lined up on the top, gently pinch all four
pages to keep them together. The use a stapler to put one staple in
the center of your writing pages.
Step
19/21
Get your title page. Place your writing onto the title page. Use a
stapler to put a staple on each side in the grey boxes. If you’re
waiting your turn for a stapler, you can start coloring your title page.
Step
20/21
Get your poster and your Earth Explorer badge. Write your name on
your Earth Explorer badge. Then use your coloring supplies to
decorate both your poster and your badge.
