DISCUSS:
What do you think happened to my friend's lunch? Why do you think that?
DISCUSS:
As a class, work together to retell what has happened so far in The Case of
the Missing Grandpa
.
DISCUSS:
Where do you see an answer, evidence, and an explanation in this response?
Step
01/18
Get your supplies.
Step
02/18
In today’s lesson, you’ll need someone to share ideas with. This could
be a partner or someone you sit near. When everyone knows who
their talk partner is, move on to the next step.
Step
03/18
If you’d like to read the story on your own, you can pause the video
now. Or you can keep watching to hear me read the story aloud.
Step
04/18
Get the class letter. Have one person in your class read the class
letter out loud. When you’re done reading, move on to the next step.
Step
05/18
Fold your Chapter Three Continued worksheet in half. Flip it so that
question number 6 is face up on your desk.
Step
06/18
Discuss with your partner: At first, Rohan is stumped by the riddle.
How did Rohan motivate himself to keep trying?
Step
07/18
Write a complete sentence answer to the question using as many
words from the question as you can.
Step
08/18
Find the part in the story where Rohan motivates himself to
keep trying. Underline a sentence or two that you think best
shows your answer.
Step
09/18
Add your evidence to your answer using one of the evidence
sentence starters. Copy your evidence from the story exactly
and put it in quotation marks.
Step
10/18
Take turns with your partner. Try explaining your quote both ways
out loud.
Step
11/18
Write your explanation.
Step
12/18
Trace the dotted lines on your worksheet to connect all the parts.
Then flip your worksheet over.
Step
13/18
Discuss with your partner: Why did Rohan think the encyclopedias
were the next clue?
Step
14/18
Write your answer to question 7. Follow the steps on your worksheet
to include all the parts.
Step
15/18
Share what you wrote with your partner. Double check to make
sure you have an answer to the question, evidence, and an
explanation. If you want, you can make changes.
Step
16/18
Trace the dotted lines on your worksheet.
Step
17/18
Fold your Chapter Three worksheet in half.
Step
18/18
Add your two new worksheets to your case file in the back. You can
use the page numbers to help keep your case file in order. Put the
paper clip back on your case file.
